Coppoletta said the city cannot forget about the south side of town. Coppoletta voiced “support (of) local businesses” and cautioned against businesses that pollute. She said Texas State students who want to stay in the community should have the option of high paying jobs, and not just retail jobs.

The evening’s amusement consisted in the following question for each candidate: If the city council were to meet on your birthday and promise to pass one piece of legislation at your pleasure, what would you choose?

After joking that she’d like a trip to Paris, Coppoletta said she’d like for San Marcos to be a Parisian-style, pedestrian-friendly city.

“We need to focus on retaining businesses,” said Lisa Marie Coppeletta, a former council candidate. She noted that residential areas including those for senior citizens are in close proximity to Springtown and would be impacted by the redevelopment as planned. “Your focus should be not to compete but rather complement pre-existing businesses,” she continued. “I stand firm against the item.”
